✈️ Oshkosh Camera Wallpaper

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh — the world's greatest aviation celebration, live on your desktop.

Counting down to AirVenture

Oshkosh Camera Wallpaper — live preview

This is what the wallpaper looks like — the seven AirVenture cameras in one grid, playing live (muted). Every stream plays straight from YouTube to your browser — nothing passes through this site.

🖼 Make it your wallpaper — the 10-second grid

Exactly what you see in the preview above, as your desktop. The little script downloads each camera frame directly from YouTube to your PC and builds the grid locally — nothing streams through this site. It saves your current wallpaper first and restores it (and deletes itself) on July 27.

🪟 Windows 10 / 11

Download .bat

Double-click → if SmartScreen warns, "More info → Run anyway". Uninstall: run it with uninstall.

🍎 macOS

Download .command

Double-click (first time: right-click → Open). Installs ffmpeg + yt-dlp via Homebrew for real frames. Allow "System Events" when asked.

🐧 Linux

One line in a terminal:

curl -s https://dizydiz.com/oshkosh/oshkosh-wallpaper-linux.sh | bash

GNOME/Cinnamon/MATE/XFCE/KDE. Installs ffmpeg + yt-dlp + pillow if missing.

macOS & Linux pull the real camera frames (they run ffmpeg + yt-dlp locally, straight from YouTube). The Windows one-click uses YouTube's lighter thumbnail frames.

🎬 Or go full-motion (any OS, one free app)

Real moving video instead of a 10-second grid: point a free, open-source "web wallpaper" app at the live multiview. The app plays the YouTube streams directly — we're not in the middle.

🪟 Windows

🍎 macOS

PlashAdd Website → same URL:

🐧 Linux

mpvpaper (Wayland) or any webview-wallpaper tool → same URL:

mpvpaper -o "--ytdl-format=best" '*' \
  https://dizydiz.com/oshkosh/watch.html?bare=1

When the show ends (July 27), remove the wallpaper in the app — a normal setting, nothing lingering.

🛠 The two clients we actually run — grab them for next year

These are the exact two scripts that drove the Oshkosh wallpaper on our own desktop through AirVenture 2026 — not simplified demos. Both pull frames straight from YouTube to your machine using yt-dlp + ffmpeg; nothing streams through this site. Parked here so they're ready to dust off for AirVenture 2027.

🖼 10-second grid (real frames)

Download oshkosh-10s-local.py

Grabs a real frame from each camera, composites the grid locally, and sets it as your wallpaper every 10 seconds.
Needs: Linux with a Cinnamon desktop (it sets the wallpaper via gsettings org.cinnamon…), X11, plus python3, yt-dlp, ffmpeg.
Run: python3 oshkosh-10s-local.py

🎬 LIVE video tiles

Download oshkosh-live.sh

Plays the cameras as live mpv video tiles behind your desktop icons, and swaps in EAA's produced broadcast during show windows (ADS-B radar otherwise).
Needs: Linux/X11, mpv, yt-dlp, ffmpeg.
Run: bash oshkosh-live.sh start  ·  stop with bash oshkosh-live.sh stop

Heads-up for 2027: both scripts carry 2026 stream IDs and read the 2026 lineup.json schedule. EAA's broadcast ID already rotated once during the 2026 show, so expect to refresh the camera/broadcast IDs and the schedule before next year's event — the plumbing is what's worth keeping, not the IDs. oshkosh-live.sh also self-limits to the 2026 show window.

📱 On your phone

Open the multiview in your phone's browser and full-screen it — same seven cams, same direct-from-YouTube streams. Add it to your home screen for one-tap access during the show.

Why I built this

I'm doing this because I'm staying home this year. I've flown in and camped in the North 40 twice — "there's no sleeping through the 7 AM radial alarm clock, and it has no mute button" — and I've RV'd at Camp Scholler twice (with beautiful A/C and my own private facilities). I'm just a pilot who enjoys going, hates the walking, and every year I'm not there — like this year — I'm glued to the live streams.

This started as a way to check out the show while I'm working (and unfortunately not at the show). I'll be back at the airshow in a couple of years, when time and money allow and the kids get a little older. Until then: see you on the desktop.

Airplane camping as far as you can see — the North 40.

North 40 mornings: towels on the wing, tent behind the prop.

Golden hour on the flightline — tent, tail, done.

The upgrade years: Camp Scholler, with A/C and my own private facilities.

The fine print: This is a free fan project by DizyDiz, not affiliated with or endorsed by EAA (or anyone else linked here) — though I am a pilot and an EAA & AOPA member! — everything is provided as-is, use at your own risk, and sorry, but I don't have time to help everyone troubleshoot individual issues. I'm not making a dime on this; it exists purely for the passion of aviation. All video is streamed directly from YouTube/EAA to your device — this site hosts a page and some glue code, not their footage. Questions or concerns about anything here — and especially positive feedback and pats on the back — are welcome at [email protected] ✈️ Support the event: eaa.org/airventure.
